The major work today was climbing over Blood Mountain. It was the highest peak we have yet summited on the trail.

There were beautiful views there, but the descent was rocky and punishing.

We stopped for a moment to enjoy looking at this giant rock.

Aching from the climb down the mountain, we suddenly got a waft of grilled food in the air. It was coming from our first real waypoint on the trail, Neels Gap. A church group was there making burgers on a weber for anyone coming down the mountain. It was fantastic.

We made an early camp several miles further on and tended to our sore muscles.

Here I am trying to massage my leg with a log. Willett found this a curious activity.
