Who?
- Travis: Likes fermentation, making stoves, and having fewer keys. Dislikes cupcake popularity, commuting, and checking the mail.
- Anne: Likes berries, Maine, and sweating daily. Dislikes cars, bears, and snow-less winters.
- Willett: Likes apple cores, cavorting in piles of dirt/leaves/mulch/snow, and his stuffed animal “Gromit.” Dislikes raw meat, noises in the night, and grates.
What? As of March 6th we’ll be walking to Maine, by way of Georgia, along the Appalachian Trail.
When? We’ve been planning for over a year. Our first Google Doc–a tentative draft of necessary gear–dates from January 17th, 2010. We anticipate finishing in early to mid August.
Where? Somewhere on this red line…
Why? To see what we can see. How much–or how little–we need. To wake up every day and see where our feet can take us. And, of course, for street cred.
Why is the photo above kind of weird? TECHNOLOGY! We used the panoramic photo feature on T’s iPhone so that we could each take a picture of the other person, using the white blaze as a means of matching up the two separate photos. Neat.

On May 11 Elizabeth and I are traveling to the tropical warmth of Belize in Central America. Eat your heart out. A class of 20 college students will be with us including Sigrid.

I also found about your journey from a link at CNN’s website. You have written a fascinating tale of your journeys so far. I look forward to future postings. I’m a trifle jealous as I’ve always wanted to hike the AT but have yet to find the time, $$ or the drive to actually undertake such a length task. Hey one of my friends sent me the link to the CNN article and I found your blog from there. We met you on our last night on the trail in Franklin, NC. Not sure if you remember us, but we were 6 guys in 3 tents that slept down by the water source with yall. We hiked down to that cafe by the river on our last night and when we finally came back up, yall were there with your awesome dog. Glad to see some other peoples pictures of the parts of the trail we hiked. Hope all is well and good luck!
